Online base-building, fundraising, advocacy, marketing and communications via direct and mass marketing campaigns.
We assist nonprofits with the development of a large, targeted online subscriber base via mass-media and direct marketing channels, and online fundraising campaigns – annual fund, issue-based appeals, end-of-year giving, donor cultivation and upgrade, event fundraising, etc.
Our advocacy campaign work is often dual purpose – development of a grassroots base to assist in the promotion and lobbying related to programmatic efforts, while serving as a constructive and valuable donor cultivation program.
Integrated Marketing and Fundraising: Much of our online fundraising work in the last 12 months has incorporated coordinated, multi-channel efforts including outreach via email, direct mail, telemarketing, and print advertising.
The general trend in this area – larger average gifts, higher lifetime giving – from constituents solicited via multiple channels has reinforced much of our efforts, and is core to the nonprofit industry (and our) increasingly large focus on integrated fundraising.

You don’t have to be a large organization to run a successful advocacy campaign. With a strong issue and a commitment to best practices, even a small organization can be successful. Common Knowledge assisted Marin WildCare with an email campaign that culminated in California’s congressional leadership taking action to stop the mass killing of deer at Point Reyes National Seashore. This was WildCare’s first online advocacy campaign and a concerted effort to formalize their online communications strategy. The campaign combined an online petition, a tell a friend ask, and a fundraising appeal to achieve their campaign objectives as well as their organizational goals. Through this entirely online campaign WildCare was able to halt the killing of the deer and increase their email list size by 34%.
